Swimming in the rain

As we landed into Singapore airport we finally realised why we were so far under our baggage allowance (incredibly we have only 50% of what we are entitled to and I have been worrying ever since check in about what we have forgotten.) We've brought nothing at all for the Singapore rain! And there's been a lot of it today, with intermittent but impressive displays of thunder and lightning. Rain has most definitely not stopped play though and we spent the best part of the day by the pool (or in and out it) at the Tanglin Club, one of Singapore's oldest social clubs, with our lovely friends Fay and Jonathan and their gorgeous little boy.

After some brief orientation, a little rest and a long overdue catch up over tea for Fay and me, we headed down into the CBD for supper at Lao Pa Sat, a hawkers market. There were lots of street vendors, some in a covered market place, others in the open air, offering a multitude of Asian foods. The smells were were incredible and it was amazing how busy this small square, wedged between a number of skyscrapers, had become by the time we finished our meal.
Satay chicken, noodles and rice hit exactly the right spot and we returned to our hotel for an early night, happy and full!
Here's Abigail's version of events:
